Musu Melynda Gorvie
Deputy Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer


Mrs. Musu Melynda Gorvie is the Deputy Chief Technical and Higher Education Officer in the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE).

She has over thirty-one years of outstanding work and experience in the education sector of Sierra Leone with a progressive career as a Teacher, Senior Teacher, Head of Department, and Acting Principal of a Technical/Vocational Secondary School, Inspector of Schools, Assistant Director of Tertiary Education, Deputy Director Higher Education, Science and Technology, Acting Director of Technical Vocational Education, focal person of the Sierra Leone Skills Development Project funded by the World Bank with counterpart funding from the Government of Sierra Leone.

She was Head of National Technical Unit on Projects for:
o Improving the quality of mathematics and science education in junior secondary schools (Government of Sierra Leone and Japanese International Cooperation Agency - 2012 to 2014).
o In-service training of 20,000 teachers in various teaching skills (UNICEF, World Bank, UNESCO 2010 to 2014).
o Capacity building of 500 teacher educators and administrators of tertiary institutions (UNICEF - 2015 to 2016).
o Development/review of training materials for various levels of trainings in schools and colleges.

She has served as Course Director for the Sierra Leone Teachers Union and the Canadian Teachers Federation Annual In-Service Training including Peace Education for Teachers -(2011 to 2016).

She was a team member research and writing of the:
• Country status report on education 2014.
• National sector plan on education 2015.
• Revised country status report on education 2013
• Revised national education sector plan 2014-2018.
• Concept notes and policy options on tertiary/higher education 2012.

International responsibilities and duties include:
 Focal point for Education related programs for the Commonwealth of learning in Sierra Leone (2006-2019)
 Board member of the regional training and research Institute for open distance learning representing Sierra Leone (2017-to date)
 Board of member for Education-National Associations of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora North American (2017-to date)

She was inspector of schools, Freetown Sierra Leone (1997-2002); Acting principal of secondary schools (1995-1997); Teacher, Senior Teacher and Head of Department of Secondary School (1987-1995).
Professional qualifications
 Master's in Education (curriculum development option) - Njala University, 2008
 Diploma in Education Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone - 1986
 Bachelor's Degree (Arts General) - Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, 1985.
